Even some of the most sophisticated text mining tools used today begin with simple word counts. In this session you'll learn how to use word counts in Voyant and AntConc to uncover textual patterns. These free tools will help you analyze word frequencies and collocations in individual texts and larger corpora. You'll also learn about the Naive Bayes method, a simple but surprisingly powerful way to classify texts based just on word counts. Finally, we will also discuss practical uses for these tools in research and teaching.
