Are you researching a topic and coming to a grinding halt, or just don't know where to look next for more resources? Serendipity can be a wonderful resource in itself, but being prepared to make unexpected discoveries requires having an open mind! In this workshop, we'll talk about serendipitous research encounters and spend the majority of the session rotating through various tools that allow for unexpected discovery in research: newer tools, such as Serendip-o-matic and StackLife, and more tried-and-true options, such as Google Scholar and HathiTrust. Read more about serendipity in the research process (via this NiemanLab article), and come prepared to expect the unexpected!
