Desperately Seeking Substructures

Event box

Mistaken identity is at the center of this light-hearted examination of substructure search techniques and the difficulties that can arise while using them.  Starting with the basics and moving beyond, our searcher will gradually disentangle the content and capabilities of SciFinder and Reaxys, figuring out the scope and optimal applications of each and building effective substructures in both, with a goal of getting all relevant substructures with a minimum of junk.  The situation becomes more complicated when filtering, refining searches by composition and properties, and understanding how the substances were used in papers enter the picture.  Attendees should feel confident drawing with chemical structure editors but do not need experience searching either SciFinder or Reaxys by structure.
