In this lecture, drawing on his new book Bicentennial: A Revolutionary History of the 1970s (University of Chicago Press), Marc Stein, Jamie and Phyllis Pasker Professor of History, San Franciso State University, revisits the commemoration of the nation's 200th birthday, highlighting the diverse communities and movements that participated and protested, especially in Philadelphia and with special attention to African Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Latinos, LGBTQ+ Americans, Native Americans, and women.
