Join Penn alum David O’Neil as he shares images and stories from his unparalleled collection of public market materials, the largest in the world. From blueprints to business records, postcards to photographs, buttons to bags, tens of thousands of items related to public markets create a collection unique in size and scope. Spanning four centuries, from locations near and far, O’Neil’s talk honors the rich history of public markets, beginning with highlights from Philadelphia and continuing with selections from around the world.   

Bio: 

David K. O’Neil’s (College,1977) five-decade career reviving public markets began in his hometown of Philadelphia at Reading Terminal Market. O’Neil has worked with over 200 new and historic market projects globally.  He continues to be a leading advocate for the vital role markets play building culture, communities and local economies.  He is the founder of the public markets program at Project for Public Spaces headquartered in New York City.
