Many people turn to Google to look for health information. Since Wikipedia, an online open-source encyclopedia, usually appears on Google search results, Wikipedia is currently one of the world's most popular websites. It is important to ensure that the information on Wikipedia pages is from reliable sources and is in plain (easier-to-read) language.
In honor of the African American Resource Center's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium on Social Change, Penn Libraries is participating in the Network of the National Library of Medicine's (NNLM) #citeNLM Wikipedia Edit-a-thon initiative to edit health-related Wikipedia pages. Learn how to edit Wikipedia pages using information found on MedlinePlus, PubMed, and other credible health websites.
At the University of Pennsylvania, Amanpreet Kaur (Health Literacy Librarian at the Leon Levy Dental Medicine Library) and Jennifer Lege-Matsuura (Medical Research Librarian at the Holman Biotech Commons) created the following training materials:

This volunteer activity is asynchronous and can be done throughout the MLK Symposium and beyond. No prior experience with Wikipedia is necessary.
