In conjunction with the exhibitions, The Movement of Books (Goldstein Gallery) and Material World (Main Lobby and Kamin Gallery), we invite you to make your own “movable” book, in this case using a structure known as the Jacob’s ladder, where the text moves as the blocks, held together by string or ribbon, cascade downwards, creating the visual illusion of blocks flipping over one another. It is not only enjoyed by children as a toy, but is also used by book artists for stories where movement is part of the reading process.

Members of the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers will run this workshop. The workshop is open to the public. All materials will be supplied, and no experience is required. Registration is required, as seating is limited.
