This workshop is intended for Penn undergraduate students, graduate students, predocs, postdocs, faculty, and staff who have begun working in electronic spreadsheet software (e.g.: Excel) and want to communicate through data visualization (e.g.: charts; graphs). The session is suited to learners interested in using Microsoft Excel as a digital tool for assignments, research, teaching, service, or the job market. This workshop provides techniques for choosing and generating Excel Charts so that learners can express data-based insights effectively.
After this workshop, learners should be able to
- Select visualization types with purpose
- Format data to support Excel's charts
- Customize visualizations for effective communication
Expectations
- Work-along with instructor: 45 min.
- Solo/Group practice: 25 min.
- Lecture: 20 min.
Requirements
- Prerequisite: This workshop expands on skills introduced during Get Started with Tables. Learners who attended this prior session or learned its skills elsewhere are welcome.
- Install Excel (for Windows) on your PC OR plan to use the Lippincott Library’s on-site computers.
