Description

This workshop is intended for Penn undergraduate students, graduate students, predocs, postdocs, faculty, and staff who have begun working in electronic spreadsheet software (e.g.: Excel) and want to communicate through data visualization (e.g.: charts; graphs). The session is suited to learners interested in using Microsoft Excel as a digital tool for assignments, research, teaching, service, or the job market. This workshop provides techniques for choosing and generating Excel Charts so that learners can express data-based insights effectively.

After this workshop, learners should be able to

  • Select visualization types with purpose
  • Format data to support Excel's charts
  • Customize visualizations for effective communication

Expectations

  • Work-along with instructor: 45 min.
  • Solo/Group practice: 25 min.
  • Lecture: 20 min.

Requirements

  1. Prerequisite: This workshop expands on skills introduced during Get Started with Tables. Learners who attended this prior session or learned its skills elsewhere are welcome.
  2. Install Excel (for Windows) on your PC OR plan to use the Lippincott Library’s on-site computers.

Registration is required. There are 15 in-person seats available. There are 20 online seats available.
