Hands-On Introduction to Generative AI for Product Packaging
Discover the creative possibilities of Generative AI in this beginner-friendly workshop. You’ll get hands-on experience with Adobe Firefly and Illustrator to design custom cardboard backing for a mini toy inspired by an object from the Penn Museum’s collection. Along the way, you’ll explore the importance of visual presence in packaging and learn how to prepare and export your design for fabrication using makerspace equipment. This session blends digital creativity with practical skills, fostering interdisciplinary thinking through an engaging, hands-on approach.

Please note: This is Part 1 of a two-part workshop series. Intro to Vacuum Forming—Part 2—will be held in the Education Commons on September 24. We encourage you to register for both sessions. In Part 2, you’ll create the clear plastic cover using a vacuum former and assemble your complete blister package.

This workshop is part of our Re/Make History exhibit in partnership with the Penn Museum Library. Participants will have the option to showcase their finished packaged toys in the Spring 2026 exhibition. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with the museum’s collections through creative, tactile exploration—bringing history to life, one handmade piece at a time.
