The first edition of the Declaration was typeset and printed within 12 hours starting on July 4, 1776. To honor the 250^th anniversary of the Declaration, Common Press will host a 12 hour, three day community typesetting event during which all are invited to hand-set metal type to help create a historically-accurate replica. (we have to do it over 3 days to accommodate library schedules!) The final forme of metal type will remain available for printing on our 19th-century hand press through 2026.

This event is free and open to the public, but you will need either a PennCard or a photo ID to enter the building. If you don't have a PennCard, you will need to bring a photo ID and sign in at the security desk at the entrance to Fisher Fine Arts Library for access. See University access guidelines here.
