This online session will provide an overview of some of the most common open access publishing models and the Penn Libraries' current agreements with publishers. These agreements cover Article Processing Charges (APCs) enabling Penn Authors to publish their articles Open Access for free. By the end of this workshop, you will have a basic understanding of:

  • The difference between “hybrid” and “gold” open access
  • Which publishers the Penn Libraries have APC-free open publishing agreements with
  • How to get more assistance if you have questions

No prior experience or knowledge of open access publishing is required to attend this session.

This workshop is being presented by Holly Zerbe, head of collections at the Penn Libraries, who has negotiated and set up the Libraries’ OA publishing agreements.

This event is part of the Penn Libraries International OA Week 2025 celebration.
