This Open House is a chance to see the work of Common Press during our residency at the papermill at Historic Rittenhouse Town where we will be turning the cloth collected during our community rag collection into large sheets of handmade paper. We will use the handmade paper to print copies of the Declaration of Independence at Common Press during Summer 2026.

During the Open House, we will demonstrate how to pull handmade sheets of paper, and have small samples of paper for you to take with you.

Historic Rittenhouse Town is the location of the first papermill in the United States. Historic Rittenhouse Town is located at 208 Lincoln Dr, Philadelphia, PA 19144

This location is easily accessible by car or SEPTA train, take the Chestnut Hill West SEPTA train from 30th Street to the Tulpehocken stop, and use google maps to walk 0.7 miles to Historic RittenhouseTown.
