In today’s academic and professional landscape, a clear and compelling online presence is an essential part of scholarly life. This hands-on workshop introduces Penn students to the fundamentals of creating a polished, professional scholarly portfolio using accessible, beginner-friendly web hosting tools. Designed for participants with little to no prior web design experience, the session focuses on practical strategies rather than technical jargon.

In this 1-hour session, participants will learn how to:

* register for the Domains at Penn webhosting service

* navigate the cPanel interface

* select an appropriate platform

* structure a site for academic audiences, and

* present key materials such as CVs, research projects, teaching experience, publications, and public-facing work.

The workshop will also teach best practices for accessibility, inclusive design, and ethical digital self-presentation, ensuring that portfolios are welcoming and usable for diverse audiences. Special attention will be given to translating academic work for multiple contexts, from graduate school applications to conference networking and the academic job market.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a clear plan—and the tools necessary—to begin building or refining a scholarly web portfolio that reflects their intellectual identity and professional goals. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop and sample materials to work with during guided activities.

Registration is required. There are 18 in-person seats available. There are 28 online seats available.
