Common Press spent 2026 exploring the materiality of the Declaration of Independence and the craft and material practices that created this founding document in 1776: How was ink made? What it was like to work in candlelight? Who performed the labor? How was paper made and obtained?
Please drop in anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 PM to see the results of their research and learn about letterpress production. You’ll have the chance to examine two replicas of the Declaration document and a series of letterpress-printed broadsides — and to make your own print.
