This training session explains the theory behind the BLAST algorithm for sequence similarity searching and demonstrates methods of customizing parameters to adjust results retrieved.  It is intended for any individual who finds themselves needing to do sequence similarity searches (starting with a sequence of interest and locating similar sequences) but with little experience performing such searches.  We will be using the NLM's NCBI resources exclusively in this class, and no familiarity with the resources is necessary to derive full benefit from the session.
