60-80% of chemical information in patents will never be published elsewhere, so, patents should be part of every chemist’s background searches.  This seminar highlights resources and techniques that will help chemists stay up-to-date with the patent literature and navigate directly to relevant information within the text of a patent.  We will learn techniques of text, assignee, and classification searching to locate patents on topics of interest.  Along the way, we will see how patents can provide insights into research and industry trends.

This seminar is intended to help you discover and navigate patents in your area of research.  It is not intended to give legal advice about patenting your work or about when it is appropriate to use patented material in your research.
