In Week 4, SciFinder-n and Reaxys go head-to-head in three exciting challenges: basic structure search options, advanced substructure search capabilities, and post-search refinements.  Bring your own ingredients (substances for which you want to search) to increase the difficulty of the challenges.  Organic and organometallic substances work best.  This will be a hybrid session: the in-person session will be held in the Carolyn Hoff Lynch Lecture Hall in the Chemistry Department and will be live streamed via Zoom for attendees who prefer to attend remotely.  Should the mode of presentation change, attendees will be notified.

More information:

Everyone loves a good competition, and we at the Chemistry Library are no exceptions.  This summer, inspired by cooking shows we love to watch, the Chemistry Library is proud to introduce the Great Chemistry Search-Off.  There’s a twist: in this series of training seminars, the databases are the competitors, and you get to put them through their paces each week, comparing their capabilities as you learn to perform three thematic tasks.  At the end of each session, attendees will rank the databases based on their performance in each task and determine which tool(s) will earn the coveted honor of “Stellar Resource.”

Each session will last for 75 minutes, including time for questions and answers, and you can attend as many or as few as you would like; you don’t need to come to all five.  For an added challenge, you can bring your own “ingredients” (queries that match each week’s theme).

Registration has closed.
