SUMMARY:Roundtable on Salamone Rossi and Jewish Music in Early Modern Italy
DESCRIPTION:Musicologist Rebecca Cypess (Rutgers University)\, mezzosoprano 
 Meg Bragle\, and 2023-24 fellows of the Herbert D. Katz Center of Advanced 
 Judaic Studies\, discuss the life\, music\, and contexts of Salamone 
 Rossi\, a Jewish composer working in Italy at the same time as Claudio 
 Monteverdi\, on the occasion of the concert “The Songs of Solomon” at 
 the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral on November 9. The roundtable is 
 co-organized by Penn Live Arts\, the Katz Center\, and the Department of 
 Music\, and is moderated by Penn faculty member and musicologist Mauro 
 Calcagno. A selection of related materials will be on display in the Lea
