Musicologist Rebecca Cypess (Rutgers University), mezzosoprano Meg Bragle, and 2023-24 fellows of the Herbert D. Katz Center of Advanced Judaic Studies, discuss the life, music, and contexts of Salamone Rossi, a Jewish composer working in Italy at the same time as Claudio Monteverdi, on the occasion of the concert “The Songs of Solomon” at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral on November 9. The roundtable is co-organized by Penn Live Arts, the Katz Center, and the Department of Music, and is moderated by Penn faculty member and musicologist Mauro Calcagno. A selection of related materials will be on display in the Lea Library before and after the roundtable.
