Make Waves and Open Doors: Penn Scholars Explore Open Access Publishing
Event box
Have you considered publishing your work through open access platforms? Would you like to learn more about your publishing options and what open access can offer? Join us in conversation with Penn faculty members in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and STEM who have published in both open access and subscription-based platforms. Panelists Brian Gregory (Associate Professor of Biology and Graduate Chair), Florian Schwarz (Associate Professor of Linguistics and Undergraduate Chair), and Whitney Trettien (Assistant Professor of English) will discuss their work, the scholarly publishing landscape in relation to their fields, and their decision to leverage open access opportunities or to select more traditional subscription-based models. Maylene Qiu and Mayelin Perez from the Penn Libraries will moderate the panel. Panelists will address questions on the benefits and challenges associated with open access vs. subscription-based publishing, as well as discipline-specific considerations when pondering open access options. The audience will have an opportunity to submit questions to the panelists, before and during the virtual-Zoom based panel.
